In the workshops for Ghost River Theatre’s Struck, at the West Village Theatre in Calgary: tables of objects and materials, each watched by small SDI cameras on 3D-printed holders fixed to microphone arms, so that a picture can be built by hand during a scene and cut to.

From the first workshop also came projection used to shape the room: four projectors, from different angles, carving the space with simple line drawings — an airplane cabin drawn in light around two seated actors.

Pictures made live, in view, to support or underline what the performers do — as a foley artist performs sound to picture. The idea came out of the devising of The Last Voyage of Donald Crowhurst and was taken further in Struck.
